Recently graduated as Professor in 2008, Tucum was born on 24 July 1978 in Jaguarari, Bahia. He started capoeira at the age of 12, in Vitoria da Conquista, Bahia.
Sometime in 2002, he began teaching underprivileged kids in his neighborhood. The project, which was founded by the Mayor of the City of Diadema, Sao Paulo, was to rescue the children from the streets, by surrounding them with cultural activities; giving them opportunities to become people. In Sao Paulo, Professor Tucum did not commit to any new groups but was an avid participant in the abundant street rodas. And when he finally decided to dedicate himself into a group, he chose Association of Capoeira Argola de Ouro.
When Professor Tucum decided to devote his life to Capoeira, Master Ousado invited him to Singapore. At 26 years old, Professor Tucum uprooted himself from Brazil and has been living in Singapore since 2004. Under the tutelage of Master Ousado, Professor Tucum conducted classes and workshops, helped organized Batizado ceremonies, has travelled around South-East Asia and has taken part in public and school performances. To list a few, Professor Tucum has performed for the Brazilian Embassy of Singapore and for the Womad Singapore, as well as at the launching of Discovery Atlas for Discovery Channel in Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore. He has also performed in various Singapore Arts Festivals, at Keppel Offshore & Marine events, amongst others.
